All vehicles at Bushbundu Car Rental in Windhoek, Namibia are covered by a standard third-party and comprehensive insurance with a standard excess of N$40,000. The excess level determines your personal liability in case of an accident. The excess amount will be reserved on the credit card of the vehicle renter before the vehicle is handed over. The reserved amount will be cancelled upon inspection of the returned vehicle and if no damages were reported.
Vehicle damages or accidents due to negligence are not covered by the insurance. Negligent behaviour includes, but is not limited to the following:
A traffic accident is defined as an accident involving a third party, for example another vehicle, pedestrian or an animal. A single vehicle accident is defined as an accident without the involvement of a third party and that causes damage to only one vehicle, for example losing control over the car and rolling the car or bumping a tree while reversing the car. Both traffic and single vehicle accidents are covered by the comprehensive insurance, unless negligent behaviour can be proven.
The speed limits in Namibia are 60km/h in cities, 80km/h on gravel roads and 120km/h on tarred roads, unless road signs indicate otherwise. The insurance cover becomes invalid if you exceed the speed limits and you will be liable for the full amount of the damage.
Sandstorms typically occur in the coastal areas of Namibia, either a strong south-westerly wind or a strong easterly wind. If you are in a sandstorm, stop the vehicle immediately and look for a temporary shelter. If the road or conditions make it impossible to stop, continue at a very slow speed. Vehicle damages from sandstorms are not covered by the insurance.
To avoid water damages to the hired vehicle, it is advisable not to drive through flowing rivers where the water level is higher than the axle of the vehicle. It is also prohibited to drive through sea water, salt pans or swamps with your vehicle hired from Bushbundu Car Rental in Windhoek, Namibia.
Vehicle theft is covered by the insurance if the vehicle was locked and the vehicle renter can deliver the original car keys, except in the event of a high jacking. Damages to the vehicle caused by fire is covered by the insurance unless caused by negligence.
For all insurance claims we require a detailed police report of all accidents, car theft or fire. Furthermore, it is advisable to take pictures of any accidents.
The standard comprehensive insurance does not cover tyre or windscreen damages. The vehicle renter may have the tyre(s) repaired but will be charged for the tyre replacement as Bushbundu Car Rental in Windhoek, Namibia, does not rent out vehicles with repaired tyres. Bushbundu Car Rental offers a separate tyre and windscreen cover at N$250 per day, which includes costs for tyre repairs, the replacement of two tyres and damages to the windscreen. Damages to side windows are not covered.
Personal belongings and the lives or well-being of the passengers are not covered by the comprehensive vehicle insurance. We advise you to get an international medical aid cover, including a repatriation cover.
